Thanksgiving is called 感恩节(ɡǎn ēn jié) in Chinese. To help us better understand, we may separate the phrase by "感恩" and "节". In the phrase "感恩", "感" is short for "感谢" which means "to thank, to be grateful for...". "恩" can refer to favor or anything that someone helps you with.
