Chinese Language

Chinese language is one of the main languages in the world. It belongs to the Sino-Tibetan Language family, native to People’s Republic of China. Chinese language is widely spoken by the Chinese people. Besides, people in other areas with Chinese communities such as Singpore and Malaysia also speak Chinese language. About 1.3 billion people around the world regard Chinese language as the mother tongue.

The Standard Chinese known as Putonghua or Mandarin Chinese is a standardized form of spoken Chinese language on the basis of Beijing dialect. Chinese language is the official language of the People's Republic of China, as well as one of the six official languages of the United Nations.

The development of Chinese language experienced three periods:

1.     Chinese languae in ancient times

2.     Chinese language in middle ages

3.     Chinese language in modern times

The written form of Chinese language is a number of strokes known as the Chinese characters. Due to the China’s vast territory and wide-range landscape, Chinese language in different areas are different in sound and writing. There are seven main dialects of the Chinese language--Northeast dialect, Shaanxi Dialect, Shandong dialect, Guangdong dialect, etc.

In the recent years, as the comprehensive power and international influence of China is getting stronger, there has been a hot wave of learning Chinese language. Many schools in the United States and other countries are opening Chinese course and the number of international students learning Chinese language is increasing every year.
